Booties...

This is a very easy pattern to knit, if you know how to use 4 double pointed knitting needles....actually you will need 5. I got it here but for a beginner I thought it was a little complicated so I improvised it slightly. Here is my version, ( but feel free to try the one I got it from in the first place) Pattern: These booties are knitted top down. Needed material: about 1 skein (50 gr.) of yarn, a set of 5 double pointed needles (size suitable for the chosen yarn) and a tapestry needle. The following abbreviations are used in this pattern. Sts - Stitches; BO - Bind off; Dpn - Double pointed needles; RS - Right side; CO - Cast on; WS - Wrong side; Sl - Slip; P - Purl; K2tog - Knit 2 stitches together; K - Knit; Inc - Increase; YO - Slip yarn over/around needle. Start by Casting on 32 sts evenly divided on 3 DPN,( perhaps 11 sts on 2 needles and 10 sts on the other?) and knit 1 plain stitch; 1 purl stitch; for 15 rows (or length you like) Next: Row 1 – all Knit Row 2 - *YO, K2tog, YO*; ( you might end up with 1 stitch left on your needle, slip it onto the next needle for ease, then continue with what you were doing) Rows 3 and 4 – all Knit( maybe count your stitches here, to make sure you did the YO correctly and you still have 32 sts...if you are one sts short, pick up loop and make another one) Starting the foot part: Knit 8 sts only, you might have2 stitches left on this needle, (to make sure you only knit up on 8, put the others on the next needle) leave the others, and knit on these 8 sts 8 rows: then pickup 6 sts from the side; continue knitting the left over 24sts and then pickup 6 sts on the other side of the 8 sts row you knitted....all told you should have 44sts Put all of the 44 sts on 4 dpn (that will be respectively 8, 14, 8 and 14 sts on the needles) Now you bring in the 5th knitting needle, as you have all 4 needles in use. Row 1 - K; Row 2 to 5 - P; Row 6 to 9 - K; Row 10 to 13 - P. Finishing off: 1st and all odd rows.... knit. 2nd and even rows knit 2 together each end of each needle.... Do this till you have 2 sts and 8 sts left.( this is where I changed it somewhat) Turn your sock inside out through the gap where the needles are. Put the 2 lots of 2 sts one lot on each of the 8 sts needles so you have 10 sts on 2 needles. Casting off Knit one stitch from each needle at the same time, ( that’s 2 stitches together, but off each needle)) , watch those stitches, it’s a bugger if you drop one....do the same with the next stitch, then cast off one of the stitches on the right hand needle just like you cast off when knitting with one needle. Do this with all 10 stitches from both needles. Weave in ends...turn bootie back right way out place ribbon in holes...... done

helping yet again.

I really do love going to the nursing home facility that I go to, and the lovely ladies there try so hard to "make" something. So this one nearly 90 year old, knitted lots and lots of small coloured squares...then she started to sew some of them together.....then she "hid" the work all together. Several times I had asked her where it was, and for her to get it and bring it, so I could crochet an edge around it for her....she finally brought it out, a bit embarrassed I think. Anyway I told her I'd take it home and see what I could do with it,. She'd sewn about 30 squares together, and still had that many to put to it....so here goes.... This is how it was when I brought it home .... I'd spread it out and had a good look to see what I could do And here it is...done....edge and all hope she likes it! See ya!

A new start..

... Started this a long time ago, will try and finish it... ...See ya!
